With most homes, the average life expectancy of a builder-grade window is about 15-20 years, depending on location, seasons, climate, and exposure to the elements. When working with transoms or sidelites, on doors or windows, the thing we have to look at is whether or not the transom/sidelite is built together with the product we are trying to replace, or if it is separated with a wall. If it is connected, then we need both windows to secure the opening. In cases like this, windows are built together at the factory and brought in as one piece.
